Whaley Bridge station was built as the terminus of the Stockport, Disley, and Whaley Bridge Railway. The railway was opened on June 9th 1857. Lord Newton, a descendant of Thomas Legh of Lyme, the first chairman of the railway company, joined us to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the railway's opening.
