On Tuesday 1st July 2008 the Sensory Garden at Whaley Bridge Station was officially opened by Mr Ian McDougall and his guide dog Henley. The Friends of Whaley Bridge Station were supported in this project with funding from: Association of Community Rail Partnerships, Derbyshire Community Foundation, and 02 It's Your Community Award.

The raised flower beds have been planted to appeal to all the senses. There are aromatic herbs, scented flowers, tactile plants, edible plants and long grasses which rustle in the breeze.
